[50] “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed. [51] While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. [52] When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.” [53] Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and his whole household believed.” — John 4:50 - 53 NIV
One of the things that frustrated Jesus during his earthly ministry was how many people chose to believe in Him after seeing Him perform a miracle. And I don’t think it was surprising, because long before Jesus came, God called Israelites stiff-necked people (see Exodus 32:7).
Unfortunately, many Christians are living like that today. They never believe the Word God has spoken through His servant in church or a spiritual gathering until they see its manifestation, which is very sad. It’s quite unfortunate how so many people are looking for special revelations from the Bible. Meanwhile, they are not conscious of how powerful the simple ones plain in the Word can help them. How has a simple “Jesus loves you” benefited you spiritually?
One time Jesus entered Cana of Galilee as part of His ministry trips. As soon as He got there, a nobleman implored Him to come down to his house in order to heal his sick son. But Jesus didn’t go. He only released a Word: “Go, … your son will live.” And that was it.
The Bible says the man believed the word Jesus spoke to him and went his way (v 50). And to his surprise, servants from his house met him on the way and told him that his son was alive. He thought it was a joke. So he probed further to ask the time the boy got healed. And he discovered that it was the exact time Jesus spoke the Word.
However, the Bible says that after his man had discovered the time, “… he himself believed, and his whole household” (John 4:53). The first belief was in Jesus’ Word; but the second upon seeing the confirmation of the Word, led to his salvation as well as his household. Praise God!
There are some situations you’re taking too long a time to deal with. You’ve used forty days of fasting and prayer to deal with it, but it’s still there. The time you use to address the issue isn’t as important as your faith. See what Jesus said in Mark 11:24 (NIV).
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
See that! Jesus didn’t tell you to pray for long hours to get what you want. He said, “… believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” In other words, don’t concern yourself with the time you see God’s manifestation of your prayers, but believe and move on.
Take God at His Word for your situation. And you’ll save yourself from many hours of worry and faithless prayers. He will perform His Word upon your life.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, I choose to remain stuck on my conviction of the Word You’ve released upon my life in every situation. I choose to believe in You for grace to take its full effect. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
