In a world that is constantly battling forces both seen and unseen, many Christians walk unaware of the power available to them. But Jesus makes a powerful declaration in Luke 10:19: “Behold, I give unto you power… over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” As believers, we are not called to live as victims of spiritual warfare but as victors walking in divine authority. Just as a king enforces laws in his domain, we are called to implement heaven’s will on earth. Your authority as a believer is not a future promise—it is a present possession. It is time for you to understand, activate, and walk in it daily.
Understand what spiritual authority is
Spiritual authority is the divine right given to every child of God to act on Christ’s behalf. It is based on our identity in Christ. When Jesus declared in Matthew 28:18-20 that all authority had been given to Him, He immediately passed that authority to His disciples. That means we function under His power, not our own. Through salvation, we have been elevated spiritually. Ephesians 2:6 tells us we have been “raised up and seated with Christ in the heavenly places.” That is more than symbolic; it means we now operate from a position of victory. You don’t beg for what’s already yours; you exercise it. As believers, we have the right and power to bind, loose, declare, and overcome. Ignorance of this truth is one of the greatest weapons the enemy uses against believers.
Walk in authority daily.
Authority isn’t a title. It’s a lifestyle. God expects us to live in the power He’s already given us. Imagine a police officer afraid to act while wearing a full uniform. That’s what many Christians look like when they ignore their spiritual authority. Authority must be exercised.
- In prayer: When we pray, we don’t pray timidly. We speak and declare God’s Word with boldness. Mark 16:17-18 shows us that signs follow those who believe—casting out demons, healing the sick, and overcoming darkness.
- Over sin: We have the power to overcome the flesh. James 4:7 tells us to submit to God and resist the devil, and he will flee. That is authority in action.
- In daily life: Authority shows up in how we respond to life’s challenges with faith, not fear. It’s in the decisions we make, the declarations we speak, and the peace we carry. But this authority only becomes active through faith and obedience.
Beware of hindrances to authority.
Even though we have been given authority, certain things can hinder our ability to walk in it effectively.
- Fear makes us shrink when we should stand.
- Ignorance causes us to live beneath our God-given advantages.
- Sin unveils doors to the enemy and weakens our spiritual boldness.
To overcome these, we must daily renew our minds with the Word (see Romans 12:2) and walk in step with the Holy Spirit (see Galatians 5:16). Our divine authority cannot thrive where sin reigns or where the noise of the world shrouds God’s voice. We must cultivate spiritual sensitivity and live in alignment with God’s truth.
Conclusion
God has already given you the authority—you don’t need to fight for it. You need to walk in it. The authority of the believer is not a spiritual theory, but it is a kingdom truth. Don’t let fear, sin, or doubt hold you back from living in the power Christ has made available. Instead, rise up, take your place, and enforce heaven’s will on earth. Your authority as a believer is real, powerful, and active—if only you will believe and walk in it.
