[10] “To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. [11] But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.” – 1 Corinthians 7:10-11 (NIV)
What comes to mind when you think about divorce, especially in a generation where domestic violence, adultery, fornication and all kinds of sexual immorality are on the rise? To many people, divorce is an option for a difficult marriage. But is that what God’s Word says? Let’s dive in.
In 1 Corinthians 7:10-11, God, through Paul, gave a command to marital couples. It is written in verse 10 that a wife must not separate from her husband. Then, in verse 11, it also reads that a husband must not divorce his wife. So, before God, a married man must not request a divorce from his wife, and a wife must not separate (meaning, depart or leave the marital home to go elsewhere) from her husband. But for the wife, if she does, probably due to some misunderstandings or physical abuse from her husband, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband.
As a wife, you have an obligation to build your home (see Proverbs 14:1). Much of your husband’s behaviour will reflect how you influence him. So, if you are not submissive, disobedient, stubborn or uncaring, and you start having problems, fix yourself and stop blaming your husband. Do you think he spent huge sums of money to marry you only to turn you into an enemy? Of course not!
Let’s not focus on the marital problems from the world and incorporate them into our marriages, dear Christians. Stand on the grounds and use God’s principles to build our marriages!
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your peace. Let the peace of Christ rule in every marital home right now. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
