Prioritise Helping Fellow Believers

“[10] Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” — Galatians 6:10 NIV

Every day is a day to bless someone with a good deed. Sometimes, it’s just an email for a job offer to a friend who needs one or just sending a small amount of money to a brethren. But let me ask you: When was the last time you stepped out of your room, intentionally deciding to be a blessing to someone else?

Galatians 6:10 says that as long as we have opportunity, we should do good to all people. And then Paul adds, “especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” So that implies each believer should prioritise helping fellow believers, even before unbelievers come in.

For example, if two people, one believer and another an unbeliever, ask me for money, I would give first to the believer before the unbeliever. And if what I have can support just one person, the believer would enjoy it. Am I being biased here? No! I’m just following scripture.

The people we worship God with, especially in the same church and fellowship, deserve to be shown more love than those who are not Christians. Jesus said in John 13:35 NIV that,

[35] “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Now, this means the world will only know that we’re God’s people when we love one another, not the people of it (world). So it’s true that God’s love in us has no loopholes. But when it comes to its manifestation in our daily lives, there are preferences, of which believers rank number one.

Don’t watch your fellow believer suffer for another day when you have what it takes to do him good today. According to Proverbs 3:27, it is wrong.

Love God. Love people. But prioritise helping fellow believers before considering worldly people. That’s God’s principle, not a bias.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for showing me in Your Word that my brethren ought to get my support first before worldly people. May I never forget this, especially when I’m tossed on who to lend a helping hand to. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
