“The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.” — Proverbs 22:9 NIV
It’s a blessing to be generous in a world where people think so much of themselves. Generosity is a product of the love of God. So in every believer is that spirit of generosity. But many don’t practise it, so it doesn’t grow in their lives.
For example, a person who gives ten thousand dollars at a goal unto ministry didn’t start giving that amount overnight. No! It started as little as one dollar, then five, then on and on.
Paul says we should excel in the grace of giving (2 Corinthians 8:7). But attaining that excellency is possible through the little practices of generosity we do daily. If you’re generous, then blessed are you because anybody who gives unto the poor lends to the Lord (Proverbs 19:17), and God is faithful to reward such people.
Give, and you’ll receive. But also teach the people you give unto, especially believers, to grow spiritually to live that godly giving lifestyle you’re living now, lest they become so dependent on you that they miss the blessing that comes with generosity.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
God, I pray that I’ll excel in the grace of giving as I grow spiritually in other areas of my walk in you in the name of Jesus. Amen!
