Bible text: [12] “And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, [13] and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 (NKJV)
October is recognised as global pastors appreciation month. And although many people honour it, it’s rarely celebrated in Africa, particularly Ghana, where I hail from. Why? It’s not because of cultural issues; it’s just not our thing. But choices are more powerful than statistics (said Pastor Vlad Savchuk). So, even though many others may not be honouring their pastors, you can be the change.
1 Thessalonians 5:12 says that we ought to recognise those who labour in the church among us. That refers to mainly pastors, but in entirety, all shepherds in the Lord. Do you acknowledge your shepherd in the Lord, or you don’t? When did you last surprise your pastor with a special gift he never saw coming? If you’ve not done that yet, you aren’t practising 1 Thessalonians 5:12 in your life, which is bad.
Dear friend, pastors and shepherds are human beings. They aren’t pipe-borne water for us to only approach them when we need something from them or to come to church on Sundays just to drink from their spiritual cistern as they preach the gospel. They have families; they need your support, even though many won’t say anything about it. Honour your pastor and hold him in love for their work’s sake. It is not easy to be a pastor.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to honour the able men of God You have blessed my life with. May they never lack helpers in the work they do. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
