“Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 NIV
Many of us aren’t pastors’ kids. So how it feels like to see someone close to us doing the work of the ministry is missing in our lives. Therefore, some treat servants of God as poor people but hardly see the behind-the-scenes work they do. Many people don’t see the need to give to servants of God because they think servants of God don’t need money. It’s only in ministry that people like reaping from the labour of God’s servants without any urge to give back to the Lord in reverence.
Nothing is really free in this world. It always costs you something to get what’s valuable. The Word of God is valuable. However, few people honour men of God for feeding them with divine knowledge and spiritual understanding.
Galatians 6:6 (AMP) says,
The one who is taught the word [of God] is to share all good things with his teacher [contributing to his spiritual and material support].
So it’s one thing to give offerings in church and a different thing altogether to give directly to your teacher of the Word in the Lord. Very few people apply this financial principle in their lives because many Christians think it’s a financial strain on them.
How many times do you pray for your pastor, minister, or servant of God who works hard to produce quality spiritual content online or offline to feed you spiritually? Are you so concerned with reaping from their labours? Honour men of God. Pray for them because they work hard. I am a part, and I know how hard preachers work. You may not be able to support them financially, but your prayers can be of much help to them.
You’re a blessing.
