Love Is Patient

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.” — 1 Corinthians 13:4 NIV

God is so patient. Since the time man sinned, He has desired all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth (see 1 Timothy 2:4). But what did we see in the Bible, even till today? Many people choose to live contrary to the ways of God. Yet, God hasn’t stopped loving us. He cares about us so much that He has separated ministers to serve Him all their lives just to announce His love to the lost. And even that, some are still not responding to His call.

God shows us that a part of the things to develop because of love is patience. The King James version translates the word “patient” in 1 Corinthians 13:4 as “longsuffering.” That means Christ-like patience is actually developed when it gets stretched.

Sometimes, you don’t have to insist on changing something dire in a person you love. You’ve got to bear with it as you allow God to change the person. I say this, especially to the men in relationships or even married, who tend to be forcefully corrective instead of commending their beloveds for the good things in them.

Never forget that God, although sovereign, is still gentle. Calm down on your loved ones. And don’t expect them to always behave perfectly. They’re humans; they can commit mistakes. So just as Christ forgave us when we didn’t deserve forgiveness, be patient enough to forgive your loved ones. For love is patient.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, I pray that grant me the tenacity to be patient with people who are collaborative in my life. Tame my tongue not to be constantly angry at them for anything wrong they do to me. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
