[8] “The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride.” – Ecclesiastes 7:8 (NIV)
It will surprise you to say that many people lack patience, especially the type that waits for years to accomplish something in life. Let me give you an example. God told Abraham (then Abram) in Genesis 12:2 that He (God) would make him into a great nation. That was when Abraham was seventy-five years old. Five chapters after this prophecy, when Abraham had turned ninety-nine, God came again and said to Abraham that he should walk before Him and be perfect. Can you imagine waiting on God for a child who’ll spark the nation He wants to build through Abraham for twenty-five years? A time came when both Abraham and Sarah felt frustrated. So they cut corners, and Abraham had Ishmael with Hagar, who, to date, has become a constant force in Islam and attacking Christians.
Friend, God’s promises take time to get fulfilled. If you are not patient to wait on Him, you might end up following people’s suggestions to cut corners. But as Ecclesiastes 7:8 says, the end of a matter is better than its beginning. That means if you patiently wait on God for His timing without cutting corners, your destiny will be so beautiful. But don’t be surprised that at the beginning, nobody believes in you. Dr. Myles Munroe of blessed memory once said, “Every vision has one believer first.”
It takes strength to remain patient with the Lord. And if you want to cultivate that spirit of patience, let me give you a secret. Write down the vision, put it in a place you’ll keep seeing, and constantly pray and live in direction towards it. Secondly, do what you have to do each day as per the vision God has given you. In that way, you’ll see progress in your life. Remember that before God elevates you to that great height He’s painting in your mind, He must prepare you for it. Embrace that and live in this consciousness.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, inspire me to remain patient as I work to wait on You to fulfil Your promises. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
