[15] “Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.” – Proverbs 25:15 (NIV)
Back in my university days, there was a time when one of our lecturers got furious for students not submitting assignments on time. Then one of my colleagues said in a local language, which I will translate into English, “Leave him. It’ll only take his wife to calm him down, and he’ll forget all this anger.” In fact, when I heard this, I laughed so much. But shockingly, this lecturer came to class the next week and behaved as if nothing had happened last week. Haha! Interesting.
Proverbs 25:15 says that enough patience can persuade a ruler, and a gentle tongue can break a bone. That means no matter how high a person’s position is in life, you only need patience and gentle words to keep persisting for the person to grant you the favour you desire him to do. It’s that simple, and even Jesus mentioned it when He said the parable of the persistent widow in Luke 18:1-8.
We live in a wicked world where people don’t care about using immoral means to dupe people just because of a position they have, especially in government. I’ve had several traumatic experiences with government officials who threatened me to bribe them before signing documents they’re employed to do for free. What a tragedy. Sometimes, I wouldn’t say I like it when I remember them. But it keeps on happening to several others.
You may be a believer reading this right now and probably have a good heart. For your case to be settled, especially when it’s in the hands of unbelievers, you don’t have to pay bribes. You need to pray intensely for favour. It is favour that will grant you access to places without your struggle. Keep persisting; keep pushing. Nothing is impossible with God.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your love and affection. Help me to speak well of people and never to give up persisting for what You’ve said to come to pass. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
