Love Does Not Parade Itself

[4] “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;” – 1 Corinthians 13:4 (NKJV)

Have you ever been so consumed with talking about yourself and your dreams that you shut down other people’s talks without even knowing? That is how pride works. It exalts you and makes you boast about yourself, your achievements and possessions without recognising the work of grace upon them. It is so dangerous.

The Bible says clearly that love does not parade itself. In other words, it doesn’t boast of oneself without acknowledging God for every work you have done or achieved. Imagine if God took away the air you breathe for five minutes. You probably won’t be surviving. Right?

There are so many things God does for you to keep your life moving every single day that you don’t even recognise God is the one doing it for you. Once you parade yourself about for your life, God has ways of teaching you that you cannot live without Him. Do you remember Nebuchadnezzar? He boasted about building Babylon with his might. And as the boastful words were coming out of his mouth, heaven responded to him. He was driven to the forest and lived like an animal for seven years until he became humble (see Daniel 4:28-37).

I don’t want to do what Nebuchadnezzar did. Neither do I want you to emulate his ways. If you don’t humble yourself before God, He will humble you. Learn to acknowledge God every day. Don’t see yourself as too big before God. It is He that lifts men. Your ministry, business, family or corporation can crumble to nothing without God in a day. You’re not too big. So don’t be proud. Stay humble and keep following Jesus.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your immense love upon my life. Help me to acknowledge You in every area of my life and never to boast in myself about anything I have done. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
