Give Your Children Jesus from the Beginning

[6] “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6 (KJV)

Have you read Proverbs 22:6 before? What was your take on that – to train your kids in the way you do things so that they’ll mimic your ways when they grow? Maybe yes, maybe not. But I used to think as such until I read Joshua 1:8 (NKJV) and noticed the phrase “meditate in the Word.” That means God has not permitted anybody to interpret scripture based on his own ideologies. Instead, it’s about letting scripture explain scripture.

When you read Proverbs 22:6 more carefully, the Bible says, “Train up a child in the way he should go: …”. It doesn’t say, “Train up a child in your way he should go: …”. May I ask who is the way? Jesus, right? So, as a parent, God’s Word says give your children Jesus from the beginning of their lives. That is why it’s equally important to send kids to church and allow them to worship God even if they don’t understand everything they are doing from the onset. As they grow, they will walk in God’s ways as you’ve taught them.

However, I have a question. How many parents are godly in this generation? I ask this because you cannot give your children Jesus from the beginning of their lives if you don’t know God for yourself with your spouse. So you see why many young adults and children are now practising evil things these days. They don’t have a good foundation from home, and that’s devastating.

Your parent may not have obeyed Proverbs 22:6 very well when they were raising you. But that doesn’t mean it should continue to the next generation. Stand up for Jesus, and He will give you the grace to pioneer the godly generation, starting from you and your beloved spouse in the Lord.

Father, thank You for grace. Help me to show my kids Jesus (the Way) they should tread upon. So that when I’m not around their lives, they will keep serving Jesus. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
