[8] “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” — Joshua 1:8 NKJV (Boldface mine)
A few days ago, our ministry published a devotional titled “How to have good success as a Christian.” Joshua 1:8 was the theme scripture, and it was powerful. But upon a second look at the Bible text, God brought my attention to the phrase “meditate in it day and night.” My emphasis is on the word “in.” God says we should meditate in His Word, not on His Word. What’s the difference?
Let me use this scenario to explain. No matter how nice a food’s aroma is, you can judge its taste correctly only after eating it. Right? So the food must go inside your mouth for your tongue to evaluate whether it tastes well, or not. In the same way, you cannot interpret the Word correctly by using your human understanding. The Holy Ghost in you is the One who’ll help you assimilate the Word. Following that, He’s the same person to help you connect scripture to scripture to get a divine understanding of what you’re reading.
Today’s Word goes more to ministers who stand on the pulpit of God to teach the congregation the Word. Don’t use your human understanding to teach God’s Word, or else the revelation will never be accurate. Let scripture explain scripture as the Holy Spirit connects the dots to you. I pray for spiritual illumination as you read this Word.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to understand Your Word deeper as I meditate in it every day. May I never lack walking in fresh revelation as I follow You. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
