[44] “And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. [45] For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Mark 10:44-45 (NKJV)
I don’t know who said “the way up is down” first, but I as I grew up in the Lord, my shepherds told me about it. It’s all about humility and linked to the interpretation of Mark 10:44.
In that verse, Jesus said anyone who desires to be first (or greatest) must be slave of all. In other words, the more people you serve, the greater you become in Christ. The world says cheat others to fill your bank account; God says serve others in humility, and He will lift you up.
As proof that what Jesus said is truth, He used His own life as an example. Though He was fully God, He chose the way of humility, served people and even died for us. Today, the Father has lifted Him up and given Him a name above every other name (see Philippians 2:8-9). As you can see, the principle works. Indeed, the way up is down. Continue serving God faithfully wherever you are unto His glory!
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, I choose to serve you with gladness at heart. May I never elevate myself at Your expense of going through Your training systems. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
