Some Prayer Requests You Make to God Are Deeper Than You Think

[35] “Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him, saying, “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask.” [36] And He said to them, “What do you want Me to do for you?” [37] They said to Him, “Grant us that we may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on Your left, in Your glory.” [38] But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” Mark 10:35-38 (NKJV)

One time, James and John, the two sons of Zebedee, who were a part of Jesus’ team, came requesting Jesus to make them sit at the right and left in His glory. But Jesus replied immediately saying, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?”

From this, Jesus didn’t deny them what they asked. He only told them that what they were asking for was deeper than mere prayer request granting. It required that they drink the kingdom cup (of suffering) as Jesus drank. And these two guys looked unperturbed. They still wanted Jesus to grant their requests. So Jesus did. But years later, both of them suffered for the cause of the gospel, even more than many of the other disciples. According to church history, James died as a martyr of Christ and John got fried in hot oil, but God kept him alive until he was old enough to receive the whole book of Revelation on the Isle of Patmos.

Dear Christian, some prayer requests you make to God are deeper than you think. For God to grant you those requests, He’s going to move you to another level in His kingdom. And every new level comes with new devils. I’ve seen many people pray for generational mantles, yet live without vision. Such people are not ready for God to uplift them. Let the Lord Jesus guide you to make great prayer requests that’ll displace you from living in comfort to living with trans-generational impact hands-on and in mind.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, guide me at heart to make the right prayers whenever I come to you. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
