The Tenacity to Wait on God

“Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” — Exodus 32:1 NKJV

There’s one thing I’ve observed under the sun. It’s people not sticking to one thing for long. Youngsters, especially males, hop from one relationship to another, only to meet the same cycle of problems. Some Christians hop from church to church to find solutions to their problems, resulting in them not staying at the places God has planted them.

Although there are many alternatives to doing things, God’s path will always stand out. If God never fails because of His love (1 Corinthians 13:8), then whatever He tells you will never fall to the ground. The question is, “do you have the tenacity to wait on Him, trusting His Word no matter the storms of life?”

In Exodus 31, the Israelites told Aaron to make them gods (idols) to go before them because they were tired of enduring the delay of Moses not coming down from the mount of Sinai. Moses was receiving new instructions from the Lord for the Israelites. But the people were so impatient that they thought God had abandoned them. They lost hope in their leader and wanted to sacrifice to a “god,” sharing the Almighty’s glory with earthly things which perish.

God was so angry with the Israelites that He wanted to finish the whole generation (Exodus 32:10). It took Moses to reiterate His promises made unto their predecessors (Abraham, Isaac and Jacob) before finding another alternative to deal with the case (Exodus 32:11-14).

Your leaders in Christ can plead to God on your behalf for something wrong you’ve done. Don’t trivialise the spiritual watch they give to your soul (Hebrews 13:7).

However, when it comes to personal decisions, you must build the tenacity to wait on God for yourself (and your family). Purpose within your heart that even if everyone misses the point; even if all those around you practice evil or are impatient, you’ll stay faithful to God’s Word upon your life.

Life isn’t a rush. Life is about purpose. And the director of your life is the Lord of heaven. Be anchored in your identity in Him, and don’t be intimidated by what people are doing to move on. Each person’s race of faith is in Christ, but everyone’s purpose is unique. Walk with the Lord, and obey your leaders in Christ.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, before you I come. I ask that you grant me the tenacity to wait on You, to stay faithful to Your unfailing Word and that I’ll not miss my providential way in You, Amen.
