[1] “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” – Romans 8:6 (NIV)
Do you know that our mind is under governance? It is either the (sinful) flesh governing your mind or the Holy Spirit, not both. So, the Bible says in Romans 8:6 that the mind governed by the flesh is death (irresponsive to the promptings of God), but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.
Governments can be changed. That is a common practice in several nations that practice democracy. Either a party is elected into power or voted out of power. However, two governments cannot function simultaneously in that nation. In the same way, the Spirit or your flesh can govern your mind, and those two can fluctuate, even for the believer. Why is it that some believers still wallow in sin, knowing very well that God has said that they shouldn’t do those things? Even though they are born again, in those times when they did sin willfully, it was their flesh that supervised that, not the Holy Spirit.
For unbelievers, their minds are purely governed by their flesh because they don’t even have the Holy Spirit to confront them of their wrongdoing. But for you, as a child of God, you decide what should govern your mind because you have liberty. However, scripture urges that you should not use your liberty to sin but to serve one another in love (see Galatians 5:13). If you keep in step with God’s spirit, you’ll experience the life of God and peace of mind because the devil will not have anything to struck you with condemnation. So, press on and be in continual fellowship with God. He will guide you.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your Holy Spirit in me. Help me to keep in step with Him every day of my life. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
