“The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.” — Proverbs 22:3 NIV
To take refuge means to get a shield of protection and stay under it. There are two main ways to do this. One is by looking for solutions to problems as soon as they happen. And the second is by planning with a vision in focus. Today, I’m going to speak about the second one.
In the above scripture (Proverbs 22:3), it’s written that it’s the prudent who is able to discern that danger is coming and therefore finds ways to take refuge—a shield of protection, to prevent being hurt in future. How true is that?
For instance, a few years ago, I encountered age mates complaining to me about their fees not being paid early by their family members, especially their parents. I remember telling each of them that complaints don’t solve problems. They shouldn’t worry because God will take care of it. But aside from that, I urge them to be visionary about their choices. Because of their struggles, they should not only pray for God to settle their fees but also settle financial controversies that have plagued their families for generations.
If you spend whatever you have now on pleasures, you’ll not have your future needs in perspective. Don’t think like there’s no tomorrow. Be visionary and thoughtful. Think about how future generations will benefit from your choices today, and out of that understanding, take refuge by saving money and investing your time and resources wisely. Don’t love pleasure, friend. Generations are dependent on you. Be wise.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, make me conscious of how to live unto You and the benefit of my future so that my actions and usage of present resources will be products of Your divine wisdom. Amen!
