“Whoever remains stiff-necked after many rebukes will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy.” — Proverbs 29:1 NIV
Destruction comes when we refuse to follow the right path in our lives. By the grace of God, there are numerous people who, one way or the other, correct others when they’re doing something wrong. But as you know, to accept corrections or not isn’t dependent on the speaker but on the listener. So for some stubborn children, parents usually allow them to have their own way until they return in repentance after encountering severe life issues.
Nobody is wiser than God. He’s the definition of wisdom. He says in Proven 29:1 that anybody that remains stiff-necked will suddenly be destroyed without remedy. Do you know what that means? That person’s life will be a mess, so much so that nobody can help him in the end.
When you’re stiff-necked, you refuse to listen to instructions. You become proud, thinking you know everything. You exalt your limited understanding to the point that nobody else’s words impact you. That’s wrong and risky. Yes, it’s not good to listen to every voice. But you must not neglect God’s voice, sometimes through the Holy Spirit, a spouse or a brethren.
You may have silenced others from speaking into your life. But I challenge you, “Don’t plan your sudden destruction by becoming stiff-necked.” Stop complaining and being stubborn to listen to advice, especially the one which comes from God’s Word, and your life in Christ will be glorious.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Oh God, I pray that You’ll give me a listening ear to discern what You say through others, lest I ignore a deadly correction that will help me. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
