[3] “Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. [4] He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. [5] But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.” — I John 2:3 - 5 NKJV
God wants not only to be worshipped in spirit and truth but also to be known intimately. But by what means?
Several times, many believers go to church, hear sermons being preached by pastors and desire to know God. But the missing thing in many places is that people want to be like those who know God yet aren’t taking the pains to research how they got to that realm of eternal life.
God has provided everything we need to thrive in eternal life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). But they’ll be available through our knowledge of Him.
In 1 John 2, Apostle John shows us how to conduct the test of knowing God in our lives. He says that knowing God means keeping (treasuring in your heart) the commands of God.
So to know God isn’t about becoming knowledgeable in the scriptures. It’s about letting His Word soak so deeply in your heart that it’ll permeate everything you do and give you a transformed mind that thinks just like Christ Jesus. Did you get that?
It’s not enough to set goals to know God. Draw near Him, take His Word seriously and do what He tells you to do through the Holy Spirit. Your life will move on from glory to glory.
You’re a blessing.
