“For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.” — Hebrews 5:12 NKJV
In a classroom, there are below-average, average and above-average students. Not all hands are the same, but all have one teacher. In the same way in Christ, the ultimate instructor of every man is God. And there are ministers God has called and entrusted with a message to preach and disciple people.
However, one thing no servant of God can do for a congregant is to determine the state of heart upon receiving God’s Word. Why? Because Jesus explained that several kinds of hearts receive the Word using the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:18-23). That also means some Christians prioritise their spiritual growth higher than others, which is quite unfortunate.
The quality of life God wants to make each of His children enjoy cannot be attainable with unrenewed mindsets. And it’s sad how some believers treat God’s Word as an afterthought in their ways of doing things instead of being the centre of everything.
Friend, I don’t want what Paul said in Hebrews 5:12 to become your story. I sincerely don’t desire you to remain at your current spiritual growth level for months or years to come. If you do that, you make God’s Word in your life of none-effect.
Prioritise your spiritual growth. Give yourself to the Word of God, and intentionally eliminate the distractions that keep taking your time to be productive each day.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, help me grow in the knowledge of Your Word. Help me increase my seriousness in making the Word effective in my life. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
