“So the king said to him, “How many times shall I make you swear that you tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord?” Then he said, “I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. And the Lord said, ‘These have no master. Let each return to his house in peace.’ ” — I Kings 22:16 - 17 NKJV
We live in a world where so many people, including some Christians, fail to exemplify the systems and principles of God to their generation. As a result, many people live in compromise to the standards of God’s Word, and if we don’t take care, submitting to spiritual mentorship will become hard for the next generation. Let’s look at something that happened in 1st Kings 22.
King Ahab was about to go to war with another city called Ramoth Gilead. All the prophets in Israel prophesied that Ahab should go to the war and that he’ll win. Micaiah, a prophet of the secret place, knew he’d not win. But because all his compatriots were prophesying that Ahab would win, he too decided to lie.
However, the king scolded him, and he spoke the truth. Because he had been in his closet, fellowshipping with God, he knew that a lying spirit had descended from heaven to make the prophets lie to the king. So Micaiah decided to stand for the truth after one rebuke from the king and additionally spoke the vision he had in detail.
That vision meant that Ahab would die if he fought the war. But because Micaiah always prophesied negatively to the king, they thought this might be one of them. So they put him in custody, awaiting the return of the king. Truthfully, the king died. But what can we learn from this Bible incident?
Dear preacher, if other servants of God compromise, don’t join them. Remember that you don’t live to please man but God. Stand for the truth without any minutest degree of compromise. Let God be true, and every man be a liar. Hold fast to His Word.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
My God, bestow upon me the tenacity to stay faithful to Your unfailing Word no matter the circumstance. Make me always remember that Jesus is the standard, not any man. Amen!
