Submit To Spiritual Mentorship

“A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.” - Luke 6:40 NKJV

When a child is born, he doesn’t know anything. Therefore, he needs the caring and teaching of his parents and various other teachers in school to develop mental and self-esteem concepts about life.

However, because these systems were pre-existent before the child came, he submits unto it without knowing why. And if all the people involved in tutoring and parenting this child don’t know God, he ends up imbibing all kinds of wrong mindsets about life. For this cause, every person who comes to Christ, desiring to be taught Truth must submit to spiritual mentorship given by the shepherds (leaders and ministers) in the Body of Christ.

Jeremiah 13:15 (NKJV) says,

And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.

Jesus is our good and chief Shepherd. When He came, He chose twelve people to raise as pillars in His kingdom. They became like Him because they fellowshipped with Him.

Now, Jesus is no more physically here. But He has chosen, and continues to choose people on this earth to co-labour with Him, through the Word and Spirit, to disciple and mentor some Christians. These people are called shepherds in Christ. They are all mature ministers.

A shepherd is always greater and more knowledgeable than a sheep. Every genuine pastor is always spiritually ahead of the church he (or she) pastors. You, as a sheep, don’t need to do what they do. You just have to submit to spiritual mentorship given by them through their ministrations, which come in diverse ways.

No matter what you do, someone will always be ahead of you in the faith. Spiritual mentorship is significant in Christ not to breed human worship but to help growing Christians know Jesus the more. God can give you a shepherd or help you choose one for yourself, whether in-person or online. However, it’s your responsibility to submit to their teaching. Don’t be fooled by the mass following of a man of God. Follow him, but choose to listen to him very well. For many hear the Word, but few listen.

You’re a blessing.
