“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.” — John 10:11 NKJV
A shepherd is simply a person who takes care of sheep. He provides for and guides them as they feed and follow his path.
Now, Jesus likened His relationship with God’s people to a shepherd and sheep. That means, He being the shepherd, is responsible for guiding us through His voice, and providing for our needs, even if it involves dying for us (the sheep). And yes, He did it because He knew we needed salvation, even when we’ve not yet asked Him.
Some shepherds in the body of Christ keep their sheep (congregation) well by teaching them sound doctrine and, sometimes, providing for their physical needs. However, few or even none of them would be willing to die for the people of God.
If Jesus died for each one on earth, that vividly shows us that He’s the good shepherd whose love for everyone is without loopholes. He saw the vision that people would come to the light of the gospel, and as such, He proceeded to die for the propitiation of the sins of humanity.
You may not be the good shepherd (Jesus) people look up to in their lives. However, you can model the ways of God before them by providing for their spiritual and physical needs. And let me say that you can only do this through consistent fellowship with the Holy One of Israel and taking responsibility.
Care for one another deeply. Be mindful of helping people, especially believers in the faith, with anything beneficial to their lives. For by doing so, you manifest the love of God to them.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, I pray that You’ll give me the heart of compassion unto others that seeks to understand their spiritual and physical needs in order to supply them as You provide for me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
