“Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother’s eye.” - Luke 6:42 NKJV
I’ve realized that it’s easy for people to find faults in other people’s lives rather than their own lives. That probably happens because many of us fail to evaluate our lives so well in the light of God’s Word before checking others. That’s why comparison, envy, and strife are so common in recent times.
Look at what Jesus says in our anchor text for today’s devotion in my paraphrase: “if you find a little fault in another person’s life which you wanted to correct, first correct the big faults in your life. So that you can be able to discern and correct the other person’s fault well.” (Note that a plank is bigger than a speck.)
There are planks in our lives that ought to be removed, and we can only do this when we judge ourselves. Fault-finding isn’t evil, but it’s a prompt to do self judgment. Some people don’t realize they are wrong until someone else tells them about their inappropriate actions. Correct people if you have the opportunity, but ensure you have enough divine wisdom to provide or suggest a solution to them when you do so. For it is unwise to point out a fault without providing a remedy for it.
Examine yourself and see if you’re still in the faith (2 Corinthians 13:5). Periodically do self judgment, and see to it that everything about or connected to your life demystify Christ.
You’re a blessing.
