[14] “Then Jesus said to them plainly, “Lazarus is dead. [15] And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, that you may believe. Nevertheless let us go to him.” [16] Then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with Him.” – John 11:14-16 (NKJV)
Raising people as a leader, especially in ministry, is very key to the success of the organisation you’re handling. But as a leader, through research, it’s been noted that many leaders do not have people who are so good at many things they can do. They usually get people who are good at a certain skill to train, but usually not genius. If you are a leader reading this, I want to encourage you that you are not alone.
Even our Jesus had the same experience. He had people like Peter (a fisherman), Matthew (a tax collector), Thomas (a natural doubter), and the like, all in His team. One time, Jesus got a report that Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha, was sick. But by the time He went to check up on him, he was dead. So, initially, Jesus said to His disciples in parables that Lazarus had fallen asleep. Meanwhile, they didn’t understand. So He spoke plainly to them, “Lazarus is dead…”. Then a quick response came from Thomas, saying, “Let us also go, that we may die with Him.” But why did Thomas say that?
Prior to Jesus’ decision to go to Lazarus’ grave, Peter questioned why He was going to the town where people had already tried to stone Him. So, for Thomas, following Jesus to that town would mean that they’d get martyred with Jesus. However, was that a correct statement? I would say no because Jesus wasn’t raising them to die with Him physically, but for them to spread the gospel everywhere, especially after He had left the Earth.
Nevertheless, Jesus never complained about what Thomas said, even though what he said was wrong. Dear leader, be like Jesus. Don’t be a fault-finding leader of your team. Understand that they are not as competent as you think. Neither do they always know your reason for making some decisions. Give everyone the space to voice out one’s ideas. It fosters great team communication, which is essential for teamwork productivity. God be with you!
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, give me more wisdom to serve as a great leader over the people You’ve given me to fulfil the corporate purpose of where I am. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
