[12] “I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.” – Philippians 4:12 (NKJV)
We live in a generation where pressure from various angles to get wealth and material things abound. Today, many people can go as far as lying to consumers about their products merely to convince them to buy from them. For some consumers, they go as far as borrowing money to buy things they don’t need (but want), which later become debts in their lives.
Listen, friend, don’t be pressured. Be like Paul, who learnt the secret of contentment, especially as a minister of the gospel. There are times when you’ll have a lot of provisions to live comfortably with. Other times, you may not have as much as you want to. However, in this world, there’s enough knowledge on finance management in the scriptures people have written about, which can help you make the most of your finances. You don’t have to go broke on any day of your life. But know that sometimes, you’ll not have as much money as you expect yourself to have.
Now, whether you have much or plenty, be content. Contentment isn’t about not getting more. Instead, it’s about not being consumed with the desire to get more. As much as God wants each one to flow in abundance in all things (see 2 Corinthians 9:8), so much so that none will be dependent on anybody (see 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12), don’t be enslaved to materialism. Let God discipline your life, and live with wisdom. People pleasing is not the reason for your existence. Take note!
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the grace to be content with everything I have. I believe you’ll supply all my needs according to Your right timing for my life. So today, I lean on You for all that I need to fulfil my purpose. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
