[19] “A feast is made for laughter,
And wine makes merry;
But money answers everything.” – Ecclesiastes 10:19 (NKJV)
To be frank with yourself, what came to mind when you read Ecclesiastes 10:19, especially the last part? Money answers everything. Really? But what about people who have all the money they want yet don’t have peace in life due to the many challenges they battle with? You see, misinterpreting what the scriptures say can cost you a lot. Why? Because doctrine is contagious. It affects your thinking patterns and, hence, the way you live. That is why Romans 12:2 says you should be renewed in your mind (through the Word of God) because it is the Word that will help you live right before God.
When translated, the phrase “answers everything” means to make life glad or comfortable. Solomon was saying that when there’s a feast, people come to eat and laugh and use wine to make merry. But that enjoyment is short-lived because nobody holds a party forever, and neither do people live drinking wine all day just to make merry. But when there’s money, you can get a comfortable life. So money can afford you life’s comforts without certain limits.
However, Jesus’ warning in Mark 10:24 warns us against trusting in riches. You can have the comfortable life you desire when God lavishes you with wealth, but don’t let what you have have you. Use your possessions to fulfil God’s purposes, but always know that your identity is not in any of the things you have.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to afford a comfortable life devoid of struggles. But let me not trust in riches. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
