[21] “Fear the LORD and the king, my son, and do not join with rebellious officials,” – Proverbs 24:21 (NIV)
Solomon was a very wise man. He was a king, so he had many government officials serving under his rulership throughout Israel. And, of course, when officials are many, especially in a government setting, some will definitely be good and others subtly evil. Today, there are people in government offices so used to taking bribes from innocent people that their hearts are corrupted with the love of money. How tragic!
God used King Solomon to write to his son, now to you (and me), that you should fear the Lord and the king (officials in your country and vicinity). And on top of that, you shouldn’t join with rebellious officials. Sometimes, you may be working with these ungodly people hand-in-hand in the same company. So, avoiding them may be pretty difficult. But here’s what I want to tell you. Maintain your loyalty to God even among immoral officials.
Someone may be in a higher rank than you wherever you are. And so, for that matter, that person may have more power to control your life based on what you are assigned to do. You may not control everything. However, you determine what goes into your heart. Jesus said in Luke 6:45 (NKJV),
“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” – Luke 6:45 (NKJV)
What you allow to fill your heart determines what predominantly comes out of your mouth. Be careful of your association because the words they speak can affect you. May God give you the grace and strength to live wisely among unbelievers.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your grace upon my life. Help me to remain loyal to You every day of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
