Lead Your Generation by Example

[14] “If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.” – John 13:14 (NKJV)

It is always said that actions speak louder than words. As a leader, especially a parent, your followers (or children) will do what they see you do much more than what you say. Leading by action is more effective than just teaching, although it’s powerful. However, I believe combining both is the best leadership training style a leader can ever use to impact his followers.

Look at something. Jesus taught his disciples many things about God. In fact, His consistent teachings cleansed their lives of filth (see John 15:3). But when it came to teaching them to serve one another, He washed their feet. You may say, oh, it’s mere feet washing. But no! In those days, there were no tarred roads. The Israel land was usually dusty. In fact, some people hired servants in their homes to wash the feet of people before they entered their houses. So, for Jesus to wash each disciple’s feet, you can imagine how dirty the water and the towel He used were.

Leaders usually do in secret what people see in public. So when others desire to follow them, they are oblivious to the fact that their excellence in what they do is a product of the consistent practice of what they do behind the scenes. If you want to lead your generation by example, teach them to do what you do instead of making them admire you. Dear pastor, invest in the young generation and impact their lives. They are the future of your ministry. Be wise in leading people.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for letting Your Son lead us by example. I pray, in the name of Jesus, give me the tenacity to impact the people you entrust in my hands. Amen!
