Do Not Work for Food that Spoils

Food is an essential part of our lives. Even the scripture says the one who doesn’t work should not eat (see 2 Thessalonians 3:10). But Jesus revealed something profound about work. Although work will help you put food on the table for yourself and others, Jesus said that if you work for food that spoils, it’s not eternally profitable. And this has been a deception in many lives – working to eat. Hmm!

Today, the struggle to make ends meet has become increasingly difficult for many people. As a result, many individuals and families find themselves labouring for long hours and juggling multiple jobs in order to put food on the table and keep up with their bills. Pursuing financial stability can often feel like an uphill battle, leaving many individuals feeling trapped and unable to break free from the cycle of poverty.

However, God’s original intent of creating work was, not only to help us earn a living, but also to fulfil our purposes. It’s your duty to discover why God brought you into this world, discern your own position in the body of Christ and work towards that direction in life even as you find fulfilment. In this article, you will read more about how to work beyond getting money to eat but to fulfil your purpose.

God has called you to impact generations

God wants us to be mindful of fulfilling our kingdom assignments. He doesn’t want us to always be thinking about food. In Matthew 6:33, our attention is first drawn to seeking the purpose and kingdom of God. That is, in whatever you are doing, seek to please God first. Earthly benefits should not always be the focus. God must benefit from you. Society must benefit from you as well. Let the world see a relevant chapter in all you do. Remember, there are generations yet unborn who must come and attest to your legacy. In as much as you work, remember to leave an inheritance that heaven and your generations will be proud of.

Think big

Work isn’t just about getting something to eat. The money you get ought to be used to sponsor visions. There is a large percentage of people who live by this statement, “Hand-to-mouth”. These ones only work because they have to eat. But no! Life isn’t always about that. Work, save, minimise spending. Invest more into visions. Just imagine how much a penny a day would yield in the next ten years.

See where God has called you to be and work towards that direction. Buy books, save money for seminars, and go on educational and vocational trips. Learn from experts. Buy items that will help fulfil your divine mandate and career. Don’t be idle. Think big and work towards fulfilment. Rest not until the vision is fulfilled.

Have great faith

In all you do, have faith that it will succeed and bloom. Approaching a situation with no faith is already a failure. Believe God for great things, and do not settle for less in life, merely by thinking of what you’ll eat after work. The scripture says it is the blessings of God that make one rich (see Proverbs 10:22). It is God who gives the power to make wealth (see Deuteronomy 8:18). Have faith in Him and trust Him to prosper the works of your hands. Be truthful and faithful, and above all, be hardworking and watch the Lord bless all that you’re doing. It all starts with faith, followed by diligence in hard work.

Be eternity-conscious

Dear believer, be more heavenly-conscious in all your actions rather than just settling for earthly matters like food and water. When all is said and done, we shall appear before the judgment seat of God to render accounts of all that we did. Strive to be transparent in all that you do. Do all things as unto the Lord. This earth is temporary. There lies an eternal reward for you when you’ve lived a life of purpose.

In conclusion, God has created work from the book Genesis when He set man over the entire universe to till and subdue it. You are not only to work for food and earthly satisfaction but live a life of purpose and fulfilment. God has called you to impact generations. Live as such!!
