[12] “Apply your heart to instruction, And your ears to words of knowledge.” – Proverbs 23:12 (NKJV)
No man knows everything in this world. That is why God sets people in families. Even when you get born again, He joins you to a local church with a community of believers you can fellowship with. Right? Anytime people live together, faults are bound to happen. And when they happen, there ought to be correction. But some people don’t listen to instructions when they are being corrected and that is tragic.
Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived on the face of this Earth, says that you must apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge. I want to emphasise on the first part of the scripture. He says when it comes to instruction (translated as correction,) don’t listen with your ears but your heart. But why? Because you easily forget what you hear but retain what you keep in your heart for long. Studies have proven that people retain just about 11% of what they hear.
In an age where there are lots of portals to get information, never reduce the attention you ought to give to those who take the pains to correct you when you do something wrong. Few people love you enough to tell you what is wrong with you but you don’t know that it’s wrong. Treasure such people in your life. But in the process of doing that, make sure such people are like-minded mature believers who are genuinely interested in your well-being, and not out of envy or evil comparison.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your love. Bless my life with like-minded believers who’ll correct me when I’m wrong in any field of my life for Your glory and not for personal glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
