Jesus Is Your Good Shepherd

[11] “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” – John 10:11 (NIV)

Hired shepherds in God’s house are not replacers of the Good Shepherd – Jesus Christ. Sometimes, several congregants in churches, especially charismatic churches, miss this. So, in the end, they idolise their pastors, and some refuse to come to church when their senior pastors are not around.

Some time ago, I saw a church with many committed members dwindle in church attendance when the senior pastor was taking a sabbatical leave for one year. It took other church leaders to work so hard before people started coming around. On the other hand, that incident helped to reveal administrative problems to solve.

Your man of God is not your God. Jesus is your good shepherd. Only He laid down His life for you to be saved. Your pastor can sacrifice a lot to see you and other church members come up in the faith. But he has not been mandated to lay down his life for you. Hebrews 13:17 (NKJV) says,

“Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.” – Hebrews 13:17 (NKJV)

So from this, obey your spiritual leader. Honour him very well. But don’t come to church or serve in the ministry because of him, otherwise, that would be an eyeservice and that is not pleasing before God. Remember to seek Jesus in all that you do.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for caring for me. I pray, in the name of Jesus, lead me in the way everlasting. Guide my life to flow according to your course always. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
