[7] But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)
When Saul disobeyed God in 1 Samuel 15 by performing sacrifices he shouldn’t have done, God was on the lookout for his replacement. He chose David to succeed Saul. But Samuel didn’t know David yet. So, when God sent him to the house of Jesse to anoint His chosen king, Samuel got there and saw several of Jesse’s sons. On their first appearance, Eliab had the physical stature of a king. But God told Samuel that it was not him.
Later on, Samuel asked whether there were any more sons in that family, and that is when David was recalled from the bush to be anointed before them. If you were Samuel, you’d be very surprised about God’s choice. You may say, God, why choose a teenager to succeed a demoted king? Can he rule over the whole land of Israel? Think about this!
The Lord does not look at the things people look at. While many people can rate another person fit for a job or position based on physical stature or Earthly possessions, God looks at the heart. If your heart is pure before Him, He will choose you over the masses who boast in their physical stature and possessions, even if it feels like you are not ready for God’s appointment. Take note of this and live pure before Him.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
