Let the One Who Boasts Boast in the Lord

[31] Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.” – 1 Corinthians 1:31 (NIV)

Of late, boasting is one of the less talked about attitudes of people, although it’s really happening. There are several instances of people, especially guys, boasting about things they don’t have to deceive girls to follow them. And in most cases, such people don’t get any far with the proposals, even if they fall through.

However, there is another kind of boasting going on among established people. Some of them boast because they think they have made it this far in life by their own strength, disregarding God’s role in their rising. And that is risky. Nebuchadnezzar fought all the battles he wanted to and expanded the kingdom of Babylon so much, but he thought that he had done all this with his strength. In Daniel 4:31-34, we see from scripture that God judged him when he started boasting about his labours. The end result? He spent seven years in the wilderness living like an animal until he lifted his eyes to acknowledge God (see Daniel 4:34).

Don’t think you are that strong or intelligent, even if you have made millions. People can honour you because of your position in society, but God is no respecter of persons (see Acts 10:34). He can bring you very low in seconds. So be careful of what you say. Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to know You better in my daily walk of life, no matter my achievements. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
