The Sin of Divination

[23] “For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you as king.” – 1 Samuel 15:23 (NIV)

What is divination according to Biblical explanation? It means revealing mysterious knowledge through supernatural practices that are not sourced from God. It is also known as witchcraft. Some people argue that this evil has recently been reduced because it’s not regularly seen in public. But that’s a lie. There are witches in this world, and the devil has not relaxed one bit. Today, I want to talk about the sin of divination, which Saul’s sin was likened to.

Samuel told Saul not to take anything from the war with the Amalekites. But Saul, although he was victorious in the war, spared Agag and took the best of sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them [see 1 Samuel 15:9 (NKJV)]. Upon returning, he raised an altar and made sacrifices on it with some of the sheep God, through Samuel, told him not to take. That action was what Samuel likened to the sin of divination.

What am I saying here? Doing the work of the ministry with filthy things is just like witchcraft. When you use dark forces and even still deceive people by using the Bible in church to preach, you are not doing God’s work. You are practising witchcraft. To such people, God will punish them so dearly. Think about this! Why use evil things to scheme as if you’re helping God when God is busy finding ways to help desperate people all around the world? Isn’t it selfish to do that? Repent before God judges you.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your grace in my life. Help me never cut corners but remain faithful to You and only You as I serve You. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
