[39] “At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, [40] where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth.” – Luke 1:39-40 (NIV)
In my own opinion, Mary is one of the wisest women in the entirety of scripture. She knew how to accept God’s promises in her life, nurture it and keep it in focus till the end. When you read the four gospel books carefully, you’ll see her name several times and not her husband – Joseph or other children, except for John. Her destiny was wrapped up in raising Jesus, which is all she did, although she had other marital responsibilities to fulfil.
After the angel Gabriel gave her the news that Jesus would be born through her and used Elisabeth’s case of giving birth in old age, she decided to go and stay with the old lady. Mary didn’t get enough emotional support from Joseph at the onset of the prophecy fulfilment because he was planning to divorce her quietly. Although God stepped in and kept that relationship from breaking up, living with Elisabeth was a wise move by Mary. Her action has taught many believers that it is prudent to hang around people who are pregnant with God’s promises.
Have you ever wondered why mega-church pastors have pastor-friends from other mega-churches? What about rich people having other rich friends? There is something to learn here. If you relate too much with people carrying nothing, they will influence you negatively because their mindsets are dull. But if you fellowship with like-minded brethren and receive mentorship from those above you, you’ll be inspired to keep pressing on. Associate with people with low positions with the aim of helping them up, not to be like them. All the best!
