[11] “that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you,” – 1 Thessalonians 4:11 (NKJV)
Never have I seen in this generation that people like money but hate to work. It’s so bad that anytime I see people talk about how unsatisfied they are with the work they do, it leaves me wondering about what kind of people they are. God, the Creator of work, never intended it to be a curse for us. Instead, He created it to help us, especially men, find fulfilment. If you see a person complaining about his work, then two things are involved.
– Either his salary is not enough for him, even to meet his basic needs, or
– He isn’t finding fulfilment in whatever he’s doing.
It’s worse to work with your own hands in a career field you’re not interested in. So, if you make career changes early in life, that’s great. But God is wise. He knows that not every believer will discover his specific purpose, much more to build an institution around it. After all, there were slaves at the time the epistle was written, who obviously didn’t like the work they did. So He, through Paul, said that we should aspire to lead a quiet life, mind our own businesses and work with our hands.
Work makes you productive. And it’s a powerful antidote against boredom, especially if it’s fulfilling. It’s not always about getting money but being productive. You may not always get compensated as much as you desire. But as far as that work is helping you become productive, do it with all your heart. With time, God will increase you through the experience you have and make things better for you. Don’t give up!
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your love. Help me to work effectively with my hands in anything I’m involved in that brings glory and honour to Your name. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
