[3] For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: [4] That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; [5] Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:” – 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 (KJV)
Fornication is one of the most common deadly sins in this generation. Statistics show that the number of teenagers who’ve never engaged in sex is constantly declining over the years. That means we’re not getting any better. And to me, it’s not surprising because we live in an evil age (see Galatians 1:4), so the world’s systems will keep failing to meet God’s standards.
Despite the poor revelation from the news, I’ve always believed that choices are more powerful than statistics, said Pastor Vlad Savchuk. In other words, sticking to God’s principles despite what men say has a more powerful effect on your life than the norm. If the Bible says abstain from fornication, then you can do it as a believer in Christ. But the word “fornication” used in the scripture above isn’t just about unmarried people having sex. No! According to the Greek dictionary, it also includes other sexual sins like adultery, lesbianism, homosexuality, intercourse with animals and even incest. God frowns upon all these evils.
As a child of God, know that the Holy Spirit is inside you. Your body is His temple (see 1 Corinthians 6:19). That means, with His help, you can devise ways and means to control your body in sanctification (consecration or purity of your heart and life) and honour (value). So this doesn’t mean you’ll become less human as a believer, no matter how many hours you can pray, read the Bible, sing spiritual songs or even preach the gospel. If you’re single, you’ll sometimes have a desire for sex. And if you’re married, your urge for sex may not always be met, especially if your spouse isn’t around due to travel schedules.
Always remember that God didn’t give you a body to function against you but for you. You know yourself more than others, except your spouse (that is if you’re married). Stay pure, and never think you’re missing out on doing that.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to keep myself pure in this bedevilled generation. Give me the grace to choose You every time I land into a dire situation which forces me to compromise the standards of scripture. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
