Betrayers Among the Fold — Beware of Them

[63] “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. [64] But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him.” – John 6:63-64 (NKJV)

One interesting thing about Jesus is that there were times He taught hard doctrines among His listeners. For some, the Pharisees were around. Other times, the Sadducees were there too. You could tell that He would face strong opposition for some of the things He said, but He went on to do them anyway. Jesus knew that He wasn’t called to please people but God, and so are you, servant of God.

One time, Jesus taught the people of God by saying,

[55] “For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. [56] He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.” – John 6:55-56 (NKJV)

When the Israelites heard this, they said it was a hard saying. So, some of Jesus’ disciples were offended and decided to stop following Him. And Jesus wasn’t quite surprised. He knew many people followed Him for selfish reasons, like food distribution and doctrines to tickle their ears. They taught Jesus came to satisfy their sinful desires, powered by the wrong interpretation of the law. But Jesus’ mission wasn’t that.

As a servant of God, know there are betrayers among the fold. There are people the devil sends to churches to spy on what they do there. I’ve heard of at least two evil occurrences around church premises within a short time. Is this not from the devil? Sure it is. We live in a wicked age. So, don’t expect people always to think as good as you do. May God give you understanding as you keep preaching Him in this lost age.

Remember, you are a blessing. May this devotional guide you in your spiritual journey today and always.

Prayer:

Father, help me be discerning when speaking to people. Help me be cautious about when to talk and when to keep quiet. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
