[15] “The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps.” – Proverbs 14:15 (NIV)
There are over eight billion people on the face of this Earth. And each person has a voice. Guess what? You are not an island. So, whatever you do, you’ll have people suggesting things for you to do that may or may not be in synchrony with your vision.
Several people are either afraid to pursue their calling or do what God has been telling them to do because of what others will say. But it shouldn’t be so. One time, I was reading a book by a renowned pastor in Africa. He said that before he got married to his wife, people told him to have more children in their marriage because when he is of age, he will enjoy them. But according to this pastor, those people who gave him those suggestions will not be there to take care of all the children they are suggesting him to have with his wife. Guess what? He chose to build his family with what he agreed with his wife and not what those people said.
No matter what you do, people will talk. That is why when it comes to living a life of divine vision, you must be fully persuaded by God to pursue it, despite what men say. I’m not saying that people will always give you wrong suggestions. But some will, so be on guard.
Learn how to filter people’s words and pick those which align with what God has told you and move with it. Think deeply about people’s suggestions to you before listening to them. But above all, prioritise what God has said (as well as what you agree with your spouse to do if you’re married).
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to discern in order to distinguish between good to cling to it and evil to avoid in the words I hear from people every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
