[12] “The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious, But the lips of a fool shall swallow him up;” – Ecclesiastes 10:12 (NKJV)
Words are powerful. They can brainwash a person if he listens to what’s being said with full attention. Recently, I stumbled upon a video on television where a man eavesdropped people’s conversation about robbery, tried to engage in it and eventually ended up in prison custody to serve a sentence of 21 years. Just listening to filthy words turned his life all around to date.
You must guard the windows of your life, that is, your eyes and ears, with all diligence. What you keep seeing and hearing will affect how you think, and that will eventually influence how you live. Furthermore, in an information-saturated age, it’s easy to turn to the internet and stumble on all kinds of doctrines. Be careful.
God’s Word is the standard. It has never changed. The power of God embedded in the scriptures is still potent to date. And when you dedicate your life to knowing it, you’re going to benefit from it dearly. But God is good. He has helped several lives to study the Word, thereby increasing their wisdom. Today, to find and listen to gracious words, you don’t have to study all day. No! You only need to listen to preachers of sound doctrine in the Word.
However, there’s one danger. As good as it is to listen to the Word of God preached by others, your intimate relationship with the Lord matters the most. When you have a personal encounter with the Lord, all other messages you hear become supplementary spiritual food to enrich your life. Stay close to God – the giver of wisdom, and your life will never be the same.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to know You more each day of my life. I pray, in the name of Jesus, to keep me in a circle where listening to Your instruction becomes life to me. In Jesus’ precious name. Amen!
