[4] “Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths. [5] Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.” — Psalms 25:4-5 NIV
David was an exceptional man of God. He knew God from a very tender age. Yet, he never stopped in the pursuit of knowing God’s ways when he became the king of Israel.
Just as how hot a presidential seat is on this day, so was how hot and busy it was to be the king of God’s nation with the welfare of many people in mind. David was a busy king. But he never lived because of others. He yearned to know God’s ways better each day no matter the pressures of family life and governmental activities.
Today, I want you to learn something from David’s lifestyle. Never use work, ministry, business, marriage or anything else to serve as an excuse for failing to become more intimate with God on a daily basis. Naturally, there are issues in this world, and living to please people and satisfying the needs of others drains the joy of eternal life from you.
Like David prayed for God to show him His ways, make it a heart desire to know how God does His own works from the day-to-day activities of your life. James 4:8 (NKJV) tells us that,
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
You’ll not know God better each day by accident. You’ve got to work. You must do the “drawing-near” first before He would also respond to draw closer to you. “Cleanse your hands” in the above verse means “put down whatever is getting you so busy or engaging with worldly and ungodly things.” Evaluate your life and do that right away.
You cannot draw near the holy God and still want to maintain practising evil things. So purify your heart and decide to stay committed to God without wavering.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, thank You for Your willingness to be near us no matter our faults and hurts. Teach us how to yearn to know Your ways daily, and transform our lives for the betterment of Your kingdom. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
