[9] “Yet the righteous will hold to his way, and he who has clean hands will be stronger and stronger.” — Job 17:9 NKJV
Job was a righteous man. He was very intentional about raising a family that feared God no matter what happened. But for fear that he might lose everything he had, unfortunate things began happening to him. And although this was because God granted the devil the chance to do that, many people levelled accusations against this man of God. Even his wife told him to curse God and die (see Job 2:9). Imagine that!
Many verses in the book of Job showed that he lamented the treacherous things that had happened to him. But this is one of my favourite responses I saw Job say to those who accused him. Read Job 17:9 again.
“Yet the righteous will hold to his way, and he who has clean hands will be stronger and stronger.”
When Job said this, he was far from deliverance. God provided twice everything he lost in chapter 42. I can imagine the length of time Job suffered between these two chapters. But what can we learn from this Word?
Many are the afflictions of the righteous. But the Lord delivers him from them all (Psalm 34:9). Dear believer, it’s not every day you’ll enjoy. Some bad things will happen. But your response to them is what you must consider. The Bible says in Job 22:29 (KJV) that,
“When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.”
Don’t let your situation dictate what you say. As the righteousness of God, hold on to your way of right living before the eyes of the Lord. Once your hands are clean of evil, remember that evil people will see you as evil to them. Why? Because your light will expose their evil deeds. Let the naysayers talk badly about you. But the Word of the Lord will always stand true. It says, “… he who has clean hands will be stronger and stronger.”
Things may not be going well today. But hold onto that purpose. The Lord God will defend you and raise your head. Stay committed to God’s vision, and it will never be crushed.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the promise that he whose hands are clean will be stronger and stronger. No matter the accusations levelled against me, just for upholding your calling, help me to stay faithful. Lead and guide me in the way everlasting. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
