“A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.” — Proverbs 16:9 NKJV
It’s easy for you to decide to plan your life. And it’s not bad. But the Bible says God will direct your steps.
Despite the solidity of this truth, some questions have been raised by some believers about its application to our lives. An example is this, “why should I plan if God will direct my steps?” And this question, for example, is legitimate. But few people see its rightful answer in the Bible. Let’s look at it.
Jesus said in John 16:13 (NKJV),
“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”
The last part of the scripture is my emphasis. If the Holy Spirit will tell you things to come, then He’s the best to consult when you want to plan. That will also mean that your life will be guided by God since everything that gets into your plan will come from Him and not yourself.
Naturally, humans are selfish. So our plans made without God are full of selfish wants. When God becomes Lord over your plan, He’ll direct your steps without you needing to struggle to make it.
When ideas get into your mind, write them down. Pray about them. Seek the Lord for wisdom to design your plan just as you’ve perceived from the place of the Spirit and follow it wholeheartedly in the reverence of God. Shalom!
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Oh God, I understand that You will direct my steps in Christ. So I quit depending on my wisdom to plan my life. I choose to go by the blueprint of Your purpose for my life and not seek after selfish desires. Lead and guide me in the way everlasting. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
