“By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.” — Proverbs 16:6 KJV
In 2 Timothy 2:19, it’s written that “… Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” Before Apostle Paul got inspired by the Holy Spirit to write this, another scripture existed in the book of Proverbs that spoke about the same thing. It’s Proverbs 16:6. Even in this one, the wise preacher shows us how to depart from evil. That is, by fearing God.
The word “fear” in Proverbs 16:6 means reverence. When people reverence God, they depart (run away) from evil without stress. But do we see this in our various societies today? No!
Many are in church and still do evil things. It’s not because there’s no preaching of sound doctrine. But because the reverence of God is missing in such people’s lives.
Maybe I’m speaking about you or someone you know. Whichever way you identify this Word, recognise that honouring God in every area of your life is the antidote against all evil deeds and habits you keep practising but just don’t know how to stop. But you may ask, “how can I do this?”
Just ask yourself every time that “what will Jesus do in my situation?” Jesus is the Word. So if you can live like Jesus, then you must know the Bible and keep in step with the Holy Spirit.
Honour the Lord with your substance, time and all your possessions. Be committed to obeying Him. Doing that won’t end you up in the path of darkness.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, increase my reverence of Your will in my heart from today. Keep me conscious of Your Word; so that I will be careful to observe and do everything in it. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
