“Without wood a fire goes out; without gossip a quarrel dies down.” — Proverbs 26:20 NIV
Have you ever tried ironing your clothes on your ironing board one morning only to realise later that there was no light or your electricity prepaid is finished? Maybe you saw other houses having light, and you felt confused. Probably you were frustrated, blaming the non-functionality of the iron. Meanwhile, it was an electricity problem. That is how it looks like when you decide to deal with issues based on what you see instead of what caused them.
In Proverbs 26:20, it’s written that a fire will go out when the wood is absent or finished, just as a quarrel would die down when there’s no gossip. In other words, to deal with a fire outbreak, focus on destroying the wood that fuels the fire to burn. And to deal with quarrels, simply avoid gossip. So God is indirectly telling us today that we must learn how to deal with issues from the root causes and not the results.
Dealing with a problem from the root cause refocuses your attention from complaint to resolution.

What are you pretending not to be a problem in your life while you know that you’re suffering from it? The more you hide your struggles, the longer it takes to solve them. Find out why some of your problems are persistent and deal with them from the root causes. Maybe you need to speak to your pastor or a counsellor. Just do it!
When you know that the reason why your iron isn’t working is because of the absence of electricity, you’ll cease blaming the iron for your frustration. In the same way, dealing with a problem from the root cause refocuses your attention from complaint to resolution.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, help me to recognise the root cause of the issues in my life and give me the wisdom, patience and understanding to solve them completely. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
