“Whoever falsely boasts of giving is like clouds and wind without rain.” — Proverbs 25:14 NKJV
In my few interactions with some brethren about relationships, it’s interesting to hear how many people, especially unbelieving men, boast about possessing magnificent things they don’t have when they see ladies they want to be with.
But I asked my friends, “why do they do that?” Then they told me, in many cases, that they do it to convince the women to follow them. Some of these lies endure for a while, but most don’t, especially after discovering that everything they said was a lie.
As you read this, I presume you know that this behaviour hasn’t changed. And to be truthful, it never originated from this modern generation. It was there even before Jesus came physically to the earth. Solomon saw it and wrote about it in Proverbs 25:14.
He said that anyone who boasts of giving something he doesn’t have is like clouds and wind without rain. They are being used as agents of the devil to champion the cause of deception in people’s lives.
When the clouds in the sky turn black and the wind blows, nobody has to tell you that it’s about to rain. If you’ve hung some clothes on your drying line, you’ll remove them immediately. But after doing all this work and it doesn’t rain, you’ll suddenly have an experiential knowledge that appearance is deceptive. In the same way, when you boast about giving what you don’t have, you’re setting your hearers up to get disappointed in you later.
Jesus said in Luke 12:2 NKJV that,
“For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known.”
You cannot give what you don’t have. If you boast of having something you lack, you’ll destroy relationships. Don’t use your body as an instrument for the devil to spread lies. On the other way round, avoid falling for people who boast about having things you find hard to believe.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, give me more insight to discern what’s good and evil, as well as what’s good from right. Help me to stick to the right people, never to follow those who’ll cause a drain to my spiritual sanity in Christ. In the name of Jesus! Amen.
