“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” — Galatians 6:9 NKJV
One thing that discourages people from continuing to administer God’s goodness out of love is weariness. That usually happens when the doer gets too frustrated upon doing so much to help others without getting anything in return. It happens in ministries, workplaces and even homes. A wife may have served her stubborn husband for years without receiving a little “Thank you” note.
We live in the last days. And according to Apostle Paul, one attitude of people in these times is ungratefulness (2 Timothy 3:3). Doing good with high expectations from receivers can end up disappointing you. Don’t set your own discouragement trap.
Ministers, when you pour your heart into God’s people, and they fail to give to your ministry, continue preaching. Don’t tell yourself that because they didn’t give an offering, they don’t respect my anointing. No! It doesn’t work that way. Understand that some people are stingy, some criticise, some are spies in your ministry, and some don’t even understand God’s principles about finances. All these factors come to play.
When you read the second part of Galatians 6:9, the Bible says, “… for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” That means the harvest you’ll reap for sowing good deeds doesn’t come immediately. There’s a season for it. It’s just like a newly planted seed. Anybody can walk over it without knowing there’s a seed in the soil. But when it sprouts up, people will notice it and give it space to grow.
No matter your nature of calling, there are some private tasks you must do to power what everyone sees. No congregant sees when a pastor prepares a sermon, yet they expect to be spiritually fed every church service time, whether he’s ready to preach or not. So friend, treasure the good deeds you’re doing. I’m telling you that even if no man sees it, God has seen it and will give you open rewards for your good works.
It takes a lot of wisdom to handle anything in your hands. People won’t know how you do what you do to keep everything moving smoothly. But there’s this God who sees all things. He will never neglect to give you your reward. Be encouraged.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Oh God, grant me the grace to not grow weary of doing good in the name of Jesus. Whether I see the fruit of my labour or not, fill my heart and mind with your peace, so much so that I’ll not worry about life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
