Be Regulated by Fatherhood

“Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them. “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.” - Luke 15:11‭-‬13 NIV

An iron without a regulator can burn a shirt when used for ironing. In the same way, any man that isn’t regulated by fatherhood through godly counsel is prone to face avoidable life difficulties.

In the parable of the lost (prodigal) son, Jesus showed us how important it is to be regulated by fatherhood. The man’s younger son in the parable demanded his share of the inheritance. He wasn’t a stubborn boy. But he was only consumed with an unceasing desire for material things. His father divided the inheritance between the two sons. So each one got his own (Luke 15:12).

After receiving his inheritance, this boy wanted to spend his. But he realized that he couldn’t enjoy his wealth in the way he wanted while staying in his father’s house. So in verse 13 of Luke 15, the boy packed his things and left his father’s house. What he didn’t know was that he was running away from being regulated by fatherhood. If he had stayed much longer, his father would have taught him how to manage and multiply his wealth because the man loved his son. But he left.

The boy didn’t know what he did was wrong until he became poor in another man’s land after spending everything he had. He didn’t understand that money isn’t all about spending. In the same way, if we decide to do everything we want without seeking godly counsel, we mostly end up giving ourselves unnecessary tasks without God involved. That is rebellion.

Do you know it’s never written in the Bible that we’re must listen to only God? As Christians, we’re supposed to put what God says first, but it doesn’t mean we should neglect the reception of godly counsel from those ahead of us. You may not know the next step you’re about to take is wrong until God or your spiritual parent(s) shows you how dangerous that path is.

Just because you desire something doesn’t mean you should pursue it. Listen to God and take godly counsel seriously.

You’re a blessing.
